CE 256 - Structural Design for Dynamic Effects

This semester I am lecturing at the Institute of Civil Engineering, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City.  The course number is CE 256, and the course title is "Structural Design for Dynamic Effects."  The course is divided into three parts, namely: Structural Dynamics Review (2 sessions), Wind Effects (7 sessions), and Earthquake Effects (5 sessions).  The very last session is going to talk about structural design considering both wind and earthquake effects (i.e. the case in the Philippines).  I am lecturing the second part on Wind Effects.

The main outline of the Wind Effects part is as follows:

4. Structural Dynamics and Control

The primary textbook, which is available at the College of Engineering Library, will be:

• Wind Effects on Structures: Fundamentals and Applications to Design by Emil Simiu and Robert H. Scanlan.

• Guide to the Use of the Wind Load Provisions of ASCE 7-02 (Mehta, Kishor C. Guide to the Use of the Wind Load Provisions of Asce 7-98.) by Kishor Mehta or
• Guide to the Use of the Wind Load Provisions of Asce 7-95 by K. Mehta and R.D. Marshall,
• and last but not the least, the National Structural Code of the Philippines, 5th ed., NSCP 2001, Volume 1 - Buildings, Towers, and Other Vertical Structures.
